Meet the Team

Theo de Koning

Owner and ship captain Theo is a fifth generation Dutch mussel farmer, who learned the business from his grandfather in the Netherlands. A graduate of an advanced fisheries college in the Netherlands, he is using the most advanced technology and best practices for fisheries management as a steward of this valuable resource, and passing that knowledge down to the next generation.

Fiona de Koning

Co-Owner Fiona de Koning is more than the familiar voice of the company. As head of operations and sales, she guides "the little company that can" through storm or calm seas, and always with a
sense of humor.

Alex de Koning

Eldest son, Alex joined the family business after graduating from the University of Maine with a degree in engineering. His enthusiasm and knowledge fueled the business' growth, leading to the 2016 move into a new, larger facility. Alex's vision led to improved efficient production that shortens the "ship to shore" time so the company can supply customers with the freshest products possible.

Max de Koning

Like his father and brother, Max eats and sleeps mussel farming! As a full-time ship's Captain, Max brings in the harvest with the help of a small crew. No matter the season or challenging weather, you can find him at the helm of Stewardship.

Mary de Koning

Having married into the company, Mary has taken on many jobs and responsibilities in the past as Alex's wife. She has done everything from picking and sorting mussels on the belt, to building shelves and furniture when the new facility was built. She has supported the crew, and has been Alex's sounding board on equipment ideas for 12 years. After all this time, Mary has joined the company full time to take over as head of sales from Fiona, (who couldn't be more excited!).
