We are a six generation family owned and operated company. Located in beautiful Mount Desert Island, Maine, we have been farming shellfish here for more than 18 years.
Owner, Theo de Koning, is a fifth generation Dutch shellfish farmer and has been farming for more than twenty years.
Theo moved to Bar Harbor, ME with his wife Fiona and three children to start a new project that would introduce this method of farming to Maine. In a state that has always relied heavily on its natural resources, Theo saw an opportunity to produce this premium shellfish sustainably, while slotting in alongside a traditional way of life.
Aquaculture is bringing job opportunities to the working waterfront of Maine and gives Theo and Fiona the chance to raise his family in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Originally from Zeeland, The Netherlands, our family has been farming mussels since 1776.
We continue to use the bottom cultivated “Dutch-style” process that our ancestors have used for generations.
Applying our sustainable model of farming, combined with the clean, clear water of Maine, we produce the meatiest, most flavorful mussels in North America.
